Jonathan Rigby
Chairman of the Board
Jonathan Rigby is a graduate of the University of Sheffield and is passionate about supporting innovation emerging from the region. He currently serves as President and CEO of Sernova (TSX: SVA), a regenerative medicine company developing a functional cure for type 1 diabetes. His extensive career spans leadership roles in the U.K., U.S., Canada, and Israel, including founding and growing speciality pharmaceutical companies such as SteadyMed Therapeutics, acquired by United Therapeutics, and co-founding Zogenix Inc., which achieved a $2 billion acquisition by UCB Pharma. He has raised over $500 million in private and public financings, led Nasdaq IPOs, and overseen successful public-to-public mergers that created substantial shareholder value.
Dr Timothy Craggs
Founder & CEO
Tim Craggs, CEO of Exciting Instruments, is a leader in the field of single-molecule fluorescence. With extensive multidisciplinary experience spanning chemistry, physics and biology he has held research positions at Cambridge, St Andrews, Yale, Oxford, Bristol, and Sheffield. Craggs founded Exciting Instruments to democratize advanced single-molecule detection methods for applications in biophysics, drug discovery and diagnostics.
Dr John Baker
John Baker is Chief Executive Officer of IMU Biosciences, a biotechnology company pioneering next-generation immune profiling to advance precision medicine. He previously served as Senior Vice President at Abcam, where he helped lead global operations and drive the company’s growth through its $5.7 billion acquisition by Danaher in 2023. A veterinarian by training, John holds degrees from Cambridge and a DPhil in Clinical Medicine from Oxford. Earlier in his career, he was a leader in Bain & Company’s Global Healthcare Practice and has held Non-Executive Director roles at BrickBio and Somaserve.
Jess McCreadie
Jess McCreadie is an Investment Director at Northern Gritstone. Prior to Northern Gritstone, Jess was a Principal at Octopus Ventures specialising in Health Tech, and Investment Director at L&G, leading the strategic Health Tech strategy. Earlier in her career she was an investment banker, advising and structuring finance for decarbonisation technologies, ranging from infrastructure scale generation assets to novel early-stage technologies.

Dr Paul Wheeler
Chief Commercial Officer
Dr Paul Wheeler is the Chief Commercial Officer at Exciting Instruments, leading the global commercial expansion and market development. With over 20 years senior management experience in life science tools companies, he previously served as CCO at LUMICKS, VP and GM at Luminex, as well as various other senior sales and marketing leadership roles at Oxford Instruments, Merck, Singulex, Gyros, Oxford Immunotec, and Guava Technologies.
